And though dim sum is clearly the dish of choice, there’s actually a massive menu which offers many dishes both regularly … and changed on a monthly basis. She was inevitably followed by the lady with a cart filled with steamed chicken feet – which are fine … but they ain’t shumai, and they ain’t barbecue pork steamed bao. And if she hadn’t run out of har-gow by the time she got to you, she’d roll on by to the next table, while you implored her to stop. The lady with the shrimp har-gow always seemed to be on the other side of the room. My sense of culinary nostalgia makes me long for the good old days when a lunch of dim sum in the San Gabriel Valley was a virtual sporting event involving the pursuit of the cart ladies around a dining room just a little smaller than the field at SoFi Stadium.
